Enabling Protein Degradation Drug Discovery

Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist Proteomics

June 2020

Ubiquigent enables and supports protein degradation focused drug discovery via modulation and exploitation of the ubiquitin system.

Ubiquigent intends to expand its biology team in Dundee with a highly experienced Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist focusing on the application of proteomic mass spectrometry to drug discovery.  The role, reporting to the Head of Biology, will join a team that shares responsibility for the support of our strategic partnerships, the development of new services to build our Drug Discovery Screening Platform and the delivery of client, collaborator and internal projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to apply their outstanding scientific knowledge and experience in proteomics and to develop and extend their leadership and managerial skills. Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of high-quality proteomics services to support our clients, collaborators and internal projects, based on their substantial experience with a broad range of mass spectrometry applications, including global proteomics and the analysis of enriched samples (e.g. via the use of activity-based probes or methods for the capture of post-translationally modified proteins).

The individual will execute the entire workflows including experimental design and the generation of samples and should demonstrate a very strong capability in all aspects of data analysis, visualisation and interpretation. The individual should possess excellent analytical and communication skills and ideally have experience of managing a team.  The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Design proteomics experiments then generate, analyse and interpret such data

Specific Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in the application of mass spectrometry in proteomics, including global proteomics and enrichment strategies such as chemical proteomics/ABPs/target engagement, protein identification and characterisation (e.g. PTMs)
  • Deep practical and working knowledge of operating mass spectrometry instrumentation for proteomics
  • Robust knowledge in, and substantial experience of analysing mass spectrometry data with software packages such as MaxQuant, Perseus or Proteome Discoverer
  • Experience of managing proteomics projects for internal and/or external clients

General Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in biochemistry, or mass spectrometry/proteomics
